The picturesque Gumbo-Limbo is native to Florida and the Carribean region. Gumbo-Limbo is a medium-sized to large tree which loses its leaves in our dry winters. However, the loss of leaves only exposes the striking, copper-colored, metalic-looking, exfoliating bark. Hence, despite the loss of leaves during the dry season, Gumbo-Limboes maintain their picturesque tropical appearance.
You may plant Gumbo-Limbo anywhere south of Palm Beach County and further north along the coast in full sun or partial shade on a wide range of soils. It does well near the coast, but not at the front line dune. Except for occasional pruning Gubo-Limbo needs little care after establishment.
Gumbo-limbo is used successfully as a street tree, parking lot tree, and on large residential lots. Use it with an evergreen background that can complement the coppery bark during our dry winter season.
Delivery is free within Broward, Miami-Dade, and southern Palm Beach County.
