This native of the West Indies is one of the ancient Cycads which arose before the flowering plants when the Dinosaurs roamed the earth. Its form is vaguely reminiscent of the palms, but its foliage is stiff like cardboard. Its slow growing, but ultimately may attain a height of 4'. It makes an excellent accent plant and substitute for King Sago, which should no longer be planted.
Plant Cardboard plant or Zamia anywhere south of Orlando and further north along the coast in full sun in well drained landscapes. Cardboard Plants are drought and salt tolerant. Hence, they do well near the coast.
