25 gallon pot, 7' - 10' height - Bougainvillea
Bougainvillea's abundant and nearly year round 'flowers', its drought tolerance, and need for little maintenance make this plant a fixture in the Florida landscape. Be careful not to plant where thorns may be a problem.
Bougainvillea grows best in partial shade or full sun on well-drained soils. It tolerates hot and dry locations well. For example we've planted it on the embankments of interstate highways where no irrigation is provided and runoff removes 50% of rainfall. Nevertheless, for best flowering, you should give it regular watering.
The purple flowered variety tends to have the form of a bush, but other colors tend to be more sprawling like a vine. Bougainvillea may be shaped to a variety of forms and uses including vine, espalier, large scale groundcover and small tree. Regular pruning is necessary to shape the plant.
Choose flower colors from gold, orange, pink, purple, red, and white.
