Queen Palm is one of Florida's and the world's most popular palms. The arching deep green plumes of the canopy are the glory of this palm when well grown. The trunk is smooth and light gray in color with widely spaced rings. Thin and thick trunked varieties were once recognized, but now are seen as individual variation. The thick trunked specimens are superior in appearance to the thin trunked. Queen Palms are very fast growing and inexpensive which accounts for much of their popularity.
Queen Palms grow best in full sun on well drained slightly acid soils. The alkaline soils of South Florida often cause mineral deficiencies in this palm, however, in regularly irrigated and heavily fertilized landscapes they are capable of their best appearance. Queen Palms may be grown in most of Florida south of Orlando.
