Australian Tree Fern is perhaps the most popular of the tree fern species remaining in the world today. These tropical "Trees" evoke a feeling of tropical jungles of times and ages long forgotten before the era of the flowering plants when dinosaurs roamed the earth. In their native habitat Australian Tree Ferns can attain a height of 40' or more, but don't expect more than 15' in Florida.
Australian Tree Fern grows in fertile, well-drained, irrigated landscapes south of Lake Okeechobee and further north near the coast. Give them some shade for best growth. They should be considered an understory plant in your jungle garden.
