While this plant is a houseplant throughout the United States, in Florida it is often a popular groundcover. Macho Ferns are one of the most beautiful and tropical looking of the Swordferns. They are large, up to 4' in height, with beautifully arching wide feather-like leaves that are up to 5' long. Macho Ferns grow in partial to deep shade in well-drained soil that is moist but not wet. Gallon sized containers planted 18" apart will quickly establish. When established severe pruning periodically can help to create thick clumps.
