Large stones should be a part of many landscapes. Large undressed stones add a feeling of timelessness to the fleeting cycles of the landscape. The centuries of accumulated time visible in the stone contrast with the evanescence of the the surrounding plants.
Each boulder has its own history, its own record of its exposure to the forces of nature. Our native limerock boulders often have fossils of the sealife which dwelt here before the land of Florida was uplifted. The color of the boulder is determined by its exposure to elements such as iron and its shape and form by the forces of erosion.
Placement of boulders is critical. A boulder can look as if it has been a part of a peaceful landscape for centuries.
