The large frond-like leaves make Alpinia an excellent plant for a tropical look. The yellow variegated form of Alpinia zerumbet adds striking color in sun or shade.
Alpinias grow in well-drained regularly irrigated soils. Alpinias are not very drought tolerant. They do well in partially shaded locations Regular fertilization and water permits the best growth. Alpinias do not do well in highly alkaline soils.
