Giant Bird of Paradise is a spectacular clumping and trunk-forming herbaceous banana-like species that may grow to a height of 30'. The large 18" long "flowers" resemble a bird in flight whose feathers are purple and white. The color of the flowers accounts for another of this plant's names, that is, White Bird of Paradise. This plant is one of the most bold and spectacular tropical accents. It may be used as an upper level accent in massed plantings. Its general appearance is palm-like, but it has a more wild or informal appearance that complements the geometry of palms in the jungle garden.
Giant Bird of Paradise grows well in full sun to light shade in well-drained irrigated landscapes south of Orlando and further north on the coasts.
Delivery is free within Broward, Miami-Dade, and southern Palm Beach County.
